- 202 butterfly species
- Numerous reptiles, amphibians, and unique flora
Bwindi is most famous for its population of approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking began here in 1993, making it one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations.

Day 3 – 2025: First Gorilla Trekking Experience
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. At 8:00am, set off into the forest with experienced rangers in search of your allocated gorilla family.
The trek can take between 1–5 hours (sometimes longer depending on gorilla movement). The terrain is steep and sometimes muddy, but incredibly scenic.
Standing just meters away from a mountain gorilla family is a humbling and emotional experience. Watch juveniles play, mothers groom their young, and the dominant silverback observe his family with quiet authority. You are allowed one unforgettable hour with the gorillas.
Important Notes:
- Waterproof clothing is recommended
- Bring sufficient drinking water
- Cameras are highly encouraged
- Hiking boots and gloves are advised
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Afternoon Optional Activity:
Forest walk to Muyanga Waterfall (approx. 3 hours round trip). This scenic hike leads you through lush forest to a stunning 33-meter waterfall — a beautiful addition to your gorilla safari experience.
Dinner and Overnight (Full Board):
Same lodge as previous night.
Day 4 – 2025: Second Gorilla Trek & Community Experience
After early breakfast, return to park headquarters for your second gorilla trekking adventure. Tracking a different family offers a completely unique experience, as each group has its own dynamics and personalities.
Again, you will spend one hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat.
After returning to the lodge for lunch and freshening up, enjoy an afternoon cultural community walk in Buhoma Village.
Community Walk Highlights:
- Visit local farms and learn about agricultural practices
- Meet a traditional herbalist
- Observe local brewing methods
- Visit the Batwa (pygmy) community who formerly lived in the forest
